Bloody Wiki

This morning I woke up leisurely (rare on a Wednesday because I'm usually trapped in a little green room on the upper west side ). But there I was with nothing to do for a couple of hours, so I started reading news articles. I stumbled across one about Castro that mentioned Adlai Stevenson before I knew it, I was reading about Eisenhower and Patton on Wikipedia . Five minutes later I was reading about Pancho Villa and it was 11 am and I still had to pick-up laundry and travel 45 minutes to an hour to lock myself in the little green room.

The preponderance of links call to me like the Sirens to Odysseus sucking me into a whirlpool of vaguely useful information and trivia. I wish Wiki no ill will and i only hope for its further success. I very much support the democratic and open nature of Wiki. I will continue to battle between my penchant for punctuality and my uncontrollable urge for knowledge.

Oh Had I Only Know When I Was Young

Yesterday Drew and I were playing soccer with the aid of a wallball court. We soon drew the attention of an 8 year old boy who had grown bored of watching his father play wallball. We asked him to join us in our game. He hesitantly played with us and thought we were infinitely better than two lifetime rec league players ever could be. Running around the court, Drew and I quickly realized two things one that we are woefully out of shape and two we missed out on several fundamentals when we were little.

Our youthful cohort also seemed on a track to miss these fundamentals as well. Whenever we tried to explain some subtlety to him, the explanation clearly went right through him. The energy of an 8 year always astounds me.

I feel much more sympathy for my childhood coaches, who put up with me and my peers. Hopefully I'll be able to teach and be taught by a group of kids in sincerity someday soon.

The Tiered Nature of Wake-up Times

In light of my and my cousin's general lack of sleep these days, I've decided to evaluate the various time slots for gaining consciousness in the mornings.

1. Before 7am, waking up is really not a good plan and my body sure as hell let's me know it. No matter what time I goto sleep the night before I will not wake up happy or refreshed unless it's one of those like 3am to 6am naps.

2. Between 7-8, wake up feeling functional but not great

3. Between 8:30-10:30, feels good and yet doesn't feel like you're sleeping the day away, optimal wake-up period.

4. After 10:30, don't really want to get out of bed and will go in and out of sleep for the next few hours before finally dragging my ass out of bed or will just lay about for hours.

Idlewild is Finally Coming

So after almost a year of speculation and rumor mongering, Idlewild is finally here. Hopefully Dre and Big Boi won't disappoint their fans further by pushing it back again.

I didn't get into Outkast until around 2000, which is rather late for anyone from ATL . But a little red car and a set of sub's, kinda like this . I was motivated to catch up quite quickly.

I can't wait till August.

Travels in Suburbia

Dating women of affluent suburban communities has lead me to several observations, these are general ideas that I find hold throughout many suburbs built after World War 2, what I will call the mass production suburb.

Gadgetry

Your average suburban home is not complete without multiple televisions with viewing angles that rival some fifth graders for size. The average suburban father prides himself on the dominance of his hobby. For example an extensive model train set.

But enough about peres, on my last visit to the lower garden state i was introduced to a revived friend of ma petite amie. This fellow lives in his mother's home, works at an auto repair shop and attends a community college. Entering his room was like walking into videogame, manga, and a Samurai temple .

Every wall was covered with a manga poster or a bookshelf full of magna and video games. A corner desk lurked spanning the two windows with a flat screen monitor and elaborate computer setup, to the left a large television with every videogame system of the last six years sitting underneath it.

We then walked into his brother's smaller room to watch a Formula 1 race replay. This room was a little bit better lit but far more messy and equally littered with gamer/manga/ninja paraphernalia. Our host used a $100+ remote to control the tv and xbox 360 which were at most 3 ft away.

A Bit of Consolation

I would like to offer my most sincere condolences to the Hayes family for the recent string of misfortune that has befallen them. Michelle you are one of the greatest influences upon my life. I deeply regret that I could not be there to comfort you in this time of hardship.

Here We Go Again

Here goes nothing. This is my second foray into blogging. Hopefully I'll be able to keep this up and not let it fall into another year of disuse.

If you follow my homework link you'll find my posts from my last blog. Most of these posts are about the media. They're of varying quality levels the one about rocketboom and my closing piece are my favorites.

My dear dear cuz besides being featured in my links list is also motivating me to keep at this.

Well enjoy the content that will soon start flowing.
